These two women have been together for THIRTY-THREE YEARS. When same-sex marriage was legalized in their home state of New York in 2011, they decided to get married. They didn’t really NEED to get married. They have a lovely home, a beautiful twenty year old daughter (in the second pic) and so far, thankfully, have not yet needed the official marriage license in their daily lives. They WANTED to get married in the 33rd year of their relationship to celebrate their love with the people they love and who love them.
Being the only other child of lesbian moms at the wedding this was especially meaningful to me! This is what the fight for gay marriage is all about!
As one of them said during their vows, “This changes everything… This changes nothing.”
